Homework: Many studies show that playing outside, eating dinner as a family, and having a regular bedtime routine are much better ways to be productive in school than homework. For this reason, your child’s homework will include reading each night for 15 minutes and signing a reading log. These books can be books from home, from the library, or even books that are sent home from school. Please make sure to send back books that are sent home from school. In addition to reading, a homework calendar will be provided at the beginning of each month. These are fun, optional assignments that your child may complete. Sometimes there will be a written response while other times there will be an activity that is completed orally with a family member. I will also include some fun ways to practice Letterland words in order to prepare for the test on Friday. I hope you will enjoy time as a family without the stress of homework after a long day at work, school, and extra-curricular activities! Don't forget to sign your child's homework sheet each night. By signing, I will know that you are aware of your child’s homework as well as their conduct for the day!
Conduct Grades: Your child will be earning a daily conduct grade, which will be shown on the homework assignment sheet. This year we will be using a clip chart. Each student will have a clip with his/her number on it. Everyone will start on green at the beginning of each day, and clips can be moved up or down throughout the day based on behavior. These conduct grades will be shown by these colors:
Green: Every student will start the day on "Ready to Learn". This is a great level to end the day on!
Yellow: A student will be moved to the "Think About It" level as a warning about his/her behavior, and as a reminder to follow the rules.
Orange: Students who continue to display poor behavior will move down to the "Teacher's Choice" level where I will decide what action to take (teacher conference, moving seats, etc).
Red: When a student moves to the "Parent Contact" level, I will notify you by a phone call to discuss the behavior.
Specials Schedule: Every day students will be going to a Special. These classes include: Music, Logic, P.E., Library, Art, and Health & Fitness. Please make sure to check the homework sheet for the list of Specials. It is especially important on P.E., Health & Fitness and Library days!
Lunch: Our scheduled lunch time is 11:30-12:00.
Snacks: Students will be eating a snack every day. Your child may bring in one small, nutritious snack to eat during our snack time. Please only send in water or clear colored drinks in case of an accidental spill!
Friday Folders: Your child will be bringing home a folder every Friday that will contain work that has been completed by your child and any school information. After reviewing your child's work, please keep the completed work at home. It is very important that the folder is signed and returned to class each Monday.
Birthdays: Before your child’s birthday, I will send home a letter and bag. The bag will be for you to send in with your child on his/her birthday. Please send in a special treat and/or small gift for them to open during snack time on their birthday. We are trying to cut down on sugary snacks and loss of instructional time, so we are hoping (this is optional) you can send in this special treat just for the birthday boy/girl to enjoy!
Student Check In/Out: It is very important for all students to be at school on time and stay at school all day! Please stop by the office to check your child in or out of school if he/she is tardy or leaving early. The office requests you try not to check your child out of school after 3:00. Please be sure to send a note if your child will be leaving early for any reason.
Attendance: If your child is absent from school, please send in a note the day your child returns to school. You can also e-mail me to let me know your child will be absent.
